VIETNAMESE ENTERPRISES JOIN HAND WITH LAO PDR TO FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19

In the afternoon of April 1, the Viet Lao Power Joint Stock Company handed over US $30,000 to Mr. Somdy Duangdy - Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister to support Lao in checking the COVID-19 epidemic in the country.

According to the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Laos, in April 1 afternoon, at the office of the Prime Minister of Laos in Vientiane, the representative of Xekaman 1 Power Co., Ltd. subordinating to Viet Lao Power Joint Stock Company presented Mr. Somdy Duangdy - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Laos US $30,000 to join hands with the Government and people of Laos in the fight to control and extinguish acute respiratory infections COVID-19 in this country.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Mr. Dinh Ngoc Diep - Chief Representative of Viet Lao Power Joint Stock Company, Representative of Xekaman 1 Electric Co., Ltd. sincerely thanked the Lao Government for always supporting and creating favorable conditions for the Company to operate its business mission successfully over the years. He emphasized that, as a Vietnamese enterprise that investing and doing business in Laos, the Company always recognizes its role and responsibility of social security.
In the context that the COVID-19 pandemic is spreading globally and greatly influencing on every aspect of the lives of people in the world in general and in Laos in particular. The company decided to join hands with the Lao Government and people in this war.
Mr. Dinh Ngoc Diep affirmed that although the support is not large amount, but it entirely is the heart of our all officers and employees of the Company with a desire to contribute to the Government and people of Laos to quickly control and extinguish the COVID-19 pandemic.
On behalf of the Government and people of Laos, Deputy Prime Minister Somdy Duangdy sincerely thanked the staff and employees of Viet Lao Power Joint Stock Company, appreciating the support of the Company in the context that Laos is also facing many difficulties due to the impact of the pandemic; affirming this not only demonstrates the Company's responsibility in social security, but also expresses the special affection and close relationship between the two countries. The Deputy Prime Minister of Laos pledged to use the money the most effectively way to control and prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The Deputy Prime Minister Somdy Duangdy said that the worldwide situation of the covid-19 epidemic in general and in Laos in particular has been spreading complicatedly, and expressed the desire that all officials and employees of the Company pay more attention to the preventive measures, and always comply with all directions of the COVID-19 Prevention Steering Committee of Laos to support Laos in dealing with this dangerous disease effectively.
On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister of Laos also highly appreciated the ways and effectiveness of the Government of Vietnam in preventing and controlling the pandemic, expressing his belief that the Government and people of Vietnam will soon overcome difficulties, and succeed in controlling this pandemic.
Established in 2010, Xekaman 1 Co., Ltd. is responsible for developing Xekaman 1 Hydropower Project facilities with installed capacity of 322MW, including 3 projects: Xekaman 1 HPP (290MW), Xekaman Xanxay HPP (32MW) and 230kV transmission line Project with length of 70.67 km from Xekaman 1 HPP to the Laos - Vietnam border. The total investment of the project is over US $539 million with an average electricity output of about 1,218 billion kWh/ year.
As of December 31, 2019, the total electricity generated and sold to Vietnam of Xekaman 1 HPP facilities reached 4 billion kWh, with total revenue of over US $206 million and paid US $ 22.2 million to the Lao Government budget. In 2020, the project's output is planned to be 1.204 billion kWh, giving a total revenue of over US $69 million and will contribute more than US $9 million to the Lao government budget.
In another development, in April 1 afternoon, the Ministry of Health of Laos announced that it there is  one more case tested positive with SARS-CoV-2 virus, giving total infected number up to 10 people in this country.
